The last bits of my vacation:

Whale skeleton on display at museum in Ancud, Chiloé

lunch in Ancud: salad (this could be on the list of things that are normal that actually aren't -- salad with separated vegetables and no dressing, DIY salt, pepper, lemon, oil), and tortilla de papas (found one with cheese instead of bacon! This is inventive for Chilean cuisine -- mashed potatoes baked into a patty with cheese).

torta de nuez (kind of like baklava), and café café (as real coffee is called).

Oktoberfest in Puerto Varas with real Germans! (exchange students I met at a hostel). Boy was it fun to be the shortest in the group and with people who understand time and planning the way I do.

Christmas decorations... in the springtime.

Puerto Varas is known for its German roots, as in this church.

Puerto Varas is also known for being really touristy -- note Casino on left, United Colors of Benneton on right.

beautiful lakefront

My favorite part of Puerto Varas: pushing a shopping cart for the first time in 9 months. Notice the peanut butter just above my black sweater in the "Productos del mundo" section.

haha, I never thought about how a “world food” section in another country would have yellow mustard and peanut butter!

    Isn’t that great?
